Home White Papers Safety and Fire Systems Fatal Train Accidents on the UK's Main Line Railways: End of 2009 Analysis
This paper updates Professor Andrew Evan's statistical analysis of fatal train accidents on running lines of the UK's national railway system to the end of 2009, based on fatal accident data over the period from 1967 to 2009.
There were no derailments and overruns in 2009, but three fatal collisions between trains and road motor vehicles were observed.
The paper draws comparisons with results of the safety risk model (SRM) of the Rail Safety and Standards Board.
