Home White Papers Safety and Fire Systems Positive Train Control Systems: The Final Rule
The US Department of Transport's Federal Railroad Administration 2009 white paper deals with the implimentation of the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008.
Dealing with passenger and freight rail lines, the study discusses the use of positive train control (PTC) systems. The PTC system monitors and controls train movements for increased safety and is capable of preventing train-to-train collisions, over-speed derailments, and casualties or injuries to workers.
The final rule identifies issues with the original act that could be altered to improve the efficiency and safety of the US's national train system.
