The "sealed corridor" programmme intended to improve every highway-rail-grade crossing, public and private, along the rail route in North Carolina.
It details the two approaches that were used to describe benefits in terms of lives saved, such as analysis of fatal crashes, and prediction of lives saved based on the reduction of risk at the treated crossings.
It also assesses the progress made at the 44 private crossings that have been fitted with improved warning devices or closed, between Charlotte and Raleigh, from March 1990 to September 2008.
