Home White Papers Electrical Equipment and Power Supply The UK's Transport Infrastructure Rail Electrification
The Department for Transport (DfT) has published this study to address the need for further electrification of the UK's rail network to develop a world-class infrastructure.
This white paper has reported that the electrified network in the UK is comparatively smaller than most other European countries. The UK currently occupies seventh place, behind Germany, France, Poland and Italy.
It identifies the key issues affecting the implementation of any electrification programme, which include the age of existing diesel rolling stock, the availability of electric rolling stock, affordability and phasing of delivery.
