Crossrail Budget to be Slashed

01 June 2010

The UK Government is planning to make a £4bn-£5bn ($5.8bn-$7bn) cut to the £16.9bn ($24.5bn) Crossrail budget to drive down capital spending.

Crossrail may be forced to drop either the planned Tottenham Court Road station or Bond Street station, according to building.co.uk.

Other options include dropping some spurs outside central London or cutting the trains from 12 to ten carriages.

Meanwhile, Network Rail is planning to scrap plans for the £3bn ($4bn) remodelling of London Bridge station, the next phase of the £5.5bn ($8bn) Thameslink programme.
