Sudan Plans Rail Link to East Africa

Southern Sudan is planning to construct a high speed railway line from Juba to Tororo in Uganda.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $7bn (SDD515bn), according to businessdailyafrica.com.

The first phase of the project from Tororo to Gulu will cost $3bn (SDD225bn) while the second phase to Juba will cost an estimated $4bn (SDD290bn).

The project intends to link northern and southern Sudan via new trade routes.

It is expected to allow the flow of traffic between southern Sudan and the East Africa region including Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
