GE and INIT to Supply Radio Communication in Oregon

02 March 2010

Advanced voice radio and data communications systems will be provided to Oregon's Tri-County Metropolitan Transport District (TriMet) by General Electric and German firm INIT (Innovations in Transportation).

The system will monitor and manage the location of TriMet's fleet of vehicles and personnel, and automate and improve communications between dispatchers, passengers, operators and emergency and public safety responders.

It will allow dispatchers to manage routes and make changes if there are operational delays and capacity or emergency issues, increasing the rail service's reliability and safety.

Work under the $35m contract is expected to finish in 2013.

INIT's scope of the deal includes supply of onboard computers, mobile data terminals and an automatic passenger counting system.
