GE Introduces Green Locomotives for North American Market

21 May 2009

GE Transportation has launched the new AC Model ES44C4, Evolution Series locomotive that could help railways to go green.

The new cleaner, faster, safer and more reliable model will provide an alternative to the ageing North American fleet of DC-powered locomotives.

The new model, part of GE's ecomaginationSM environmental programme, features sophisticated traction control technology, higher level of reliability, reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions. It is an advanced DC locomotive from the GE stable.

This new locomotive is being built at the company's Pennsylvania manufacturing plants in Erie and Grove City.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway has conducted the first trial for the locomotive and has added 25 locomotives to its fleet.
