A Malaysian commuter line is to get a $119m facelift with a contract to upgrade its electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems.
Working with Malaysian company Hartasuma Sdn Bhd, French transportation company Bombardier will upgrade the 29km Kelana Jaya rail line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bombardier will supply 88 Advanced Rapid Transit (ART) MK II vehicles to expand the service. E&M work will consist of upgrading automatic train control, power supply and distribution and communications systems.
The contract also includes work on platform screen doors, workshop equipment, depot storage lanes, in addition to systems engineering and integration, project management and test and commissioning services.
The Kelana Jaya Line is the longest fully automated driverless transit system in Asia which opened in 1998 for the Commonwealth Games.
