Malaysian Rail to Receive Used Tokyo Metro Car Sets

07 June 2010

The Kuala Lumpur Railway (KLR) in Malaysia will receive 228 used car sets from Japan's Tokyo Metro, free of charge.

Purchased at a cost of $613m, the sets are expected to have an average lifespan of 20 years, according to mmail.com.my.

Scheduled for delivery in 2012, the 38x6 car sets will be modified for use in Malaysia.

The move is expected to help KLR ease the pressure on the local rail system and improve passenger-waiting time.
