The PK-1M mobile repair complex will help with the work

For successful operation in market conditions, operational railcar depots are equipped with modern mobile repair facilities. This is done in accordance with a number of documents developed on the basis of the Strategic Development Program of Russian Railways, including:

- "The concept of creating a system of basic operational carriage depots on the main heavy-duty routes of the railway network for the period 2006 — 2008.";

- "The concept of the organization and creation of points for the preparation of gondola cars on the railways of mass unloading in 2006 — 2009.";

- "Regulations on the technical equipment of railway carriage maintenance points".

In addition, according to the special program "Development of operational enterprises of the wagon industry", self-propelled repair complexes RK-1M are supplied to roads for the maintenance of freight wagons in transit parks and on stages (Fig. 1).

The purpose of the RK-1M self—propelled repair complex is the mechanization of labor-intensive work during chainless repair and maintenance of freight wagons. The complex also provides technical support for emergency recovery operations on railway tracks in conditions of overcoming rough terrain, mechanization of loading and unloading operations.

Specialists of FSUE Central Research Institute Burevestnik produce the RK-1M repair complex. The company is located in Nizhny Novgorod.

The following types of work are performed with the help of the complex:

- lifting the car;

- rolling out the cart;

- replacement of wheelsets, trolleys, slides, spring set, friction wedges, automatic coupler;

- closing and straightening of gondola hatches;

- welding work;

- transportation of replaceable components of the wagon (fig. 2).

The basic chassis of the RK-1M repair complex is a KamAZ—53229 diesel car with the formula (6x6). The equipment includes an IK-1505M manipulator crane for handling loads up to 2.2 tons and with a boom reach of up to 8 m, a PV-40 wagon lift with a maximum lifting force of 40 tons and a lifting height of up to 900 mm, an ADD-2003 welding unit with autonomous power supply from the chassis power plant, and a set of necessary accessories.

The operation of the RK-1M repair complex in transit parks is possible if there are two or three specialized tracks with a coating hardness in the gap of at least 20 kg/cm2 and a minimum distance between the axes of adjacent tracks up to 8,200 mm (Fig. 3).

Two RC-1M repair complexes are operating in the Lost Northern Road area. The depot's service areas diverge in four directions, extending up to 100 km from the Lost station.

Most often, the RK-1M is used as a mobile tool for replacing large-sized freight wagon components and spare parts (wheelset, trolley parts). His help is invaluable at stations that do not have lifting facilities.

In addition, the repair complex is used as a vehicle for transporting wheelsets (six pairs per flight) or assembled wagons (one per flight) from the Vologda repair depot to the mechanized wagon repair point at the Lost station. The complex is also involved in repair and maintenance work (loading and unloading, transportation of materials, welding).


On the Gorky Road, the RK-1M complexes operate in the Agryz and Yudino ICD. In the transit park of the Agryz station, with the help of the RK-1M repair complex, a faulty wheelset of a freight car is being replaced using proven technology without detaching it from the train. The set of technological documentation of the Agryz station was approved in 2008.

When carrying out work in the park, part of the train from the side of the defective car is uncoupled from the train by a shunting locomotive and moved to a distance of at least 10 m. This part is fixed according to the technical and administrative act of the station. The RK-1M repair complex is located on the site between the tracks of the park in the train break zone parallel to the wagons with a load compensation distance of more than 1 m from the contact network supports.

When lifting the car, the minimum distance from the top of the car to the contact network should not be less than 375 mm. If it is necessary to approach the contact network at a distance of less than 375 mm, work must be carried out with voltage relief from the contact network upon written permission from the power supply distance.

On the Volga Road, the RK-1M repair complex is operated in the Anisovka ICPE. The depot's service areas stretch to Rossosh (135 km), Vozrozhdenie (273 km), Ozinki (280 km), and Novoperelyubskaya (345 km) stations.

At line stations, operations are performed to replace the wheelset, components and spare parts of the car with malfunctions, welding work. The RK-1M is used as a vehicle for transporting wheelsets from the repair shops of the Anisovka high-speed electric power plant to the mechanized car repair center of the Anisovka station, as well as as a mobile technical means during loading and unloading operations, transportation of materials.

RK-1M repair complexes have been in operation on the West Siberian Railway since 2002. There are three entrance complexes in the ICDE, Inskaya and Altayskaya — two each, Novokuznetsk-Severny and Belovo — one each. Moreover, the Entrance, Inskaya and Altaiskaya repair complexes operate on specialized tracks, and Novokuznetsk-Severny and Belovo repair complexes operate on the line.

Technological processes for the use of RC-1M repair complexes in the maintenance of wagons have been developed on the road. They are regulatory documents and reflect the specifics and sequence of work when replacing the coupler, wheelset, bogie, and other components and parts of the wagon.

The operation of the RK-1M repair complexes in the Ulan-Ude and Taishet areas of the East Siberian Railway for the mechanization of labor-intensive work during the current chainless repair and maintenance of freight wagons began in 2005.

In the first 9 months of 2009, these complexes traveled 57 times to the tracks to replace defective wheel sets of wagons. In addition, they are constantly used to deliver wheel sets to the reserve from the repair depots at Mysovaya, Naushki, Taltsyi and Chuna stations.

The economic effect of using the RK-1M repair complexes has yielded positive results. For example, on the East Siberian road, the time required to replace one wheelset with the PK-1M complex is 62 minutes with a chainless repair. When uncoupling to the current uncoupling repair (TOR), this time will be at least 3 hours, followed by the carriage being placed in the train.


In the event of a malfunction or preventive inspection of the jacks in the TOR workshop, the wagons are also lifted using a repair system.

During the period of operation of the RK-1M complex from 2004 to 2008, the economic effect on the Gorky road in the CHDe Agryz amounted to 2,518.2 thousand rubles.

The effectiveness of using the RK-1M repair complex on other roads is also indisputable, both in reducing the complexity of car maintenance and in the versatility of using the repair complex in parks and on tracks.


Thus, the use of the RK-1M Burevestnik repair complex reduces the operating costs of roads, and also allows for extensive repairs of freight wagons in the shortest possible time without uncoupling the wagon from the train. In 2010, an order was formed for the purchase of three RC-1M repair complexes based on requests from roads.

In 2009, the development of a standard technological process for servicing freight wagons using the RK-1M repair complex was entrusted to specialists from the Design Bureau of the Russian Railways Carriage Industry. After the development and approval of the technological process, it was decided to transfer this technology to all railways of the Company.
