Bombardier Wins Saudi Arabian Rail Contract

03 June 2010

Bombardier has signed a $241m contract with Saudi Oger to supply its next-generation Innovia Monorail 300 system in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Canada-based company said it will supply, install, operate and maintain the 3.6km fully automated monorail transit system.

Bombardier is expected to provide all of the system-wide electrical and mechanical elements for the six-station monorail system, including six Innovia 300 monorail train sets of 12 cars each.

The trains are expected to be wide-bodied, lightweight and aerodynamic, and will be equipped with Bombardier's CITYFLO 650 automatic train control technology for driverless operation.

The monorail vehicles are expected to be manufactured at Bombardier's site in Canada, while 12 cars will be manufactured in Pittsburgh, US.

Work on the Innovia monorail system is scheduled for completion in 2012.
