Spain-based Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles has supplied two of 22 three-car, air-conditioned Emu train sets to Turkey under a €123m ($152m) contract.
The trains are expected to run on an 80km stretch of reconstructed suburban lines extending from Izmir to Menderes and Aliaga, serving 32 stations, according to railwaysafrica.com.
The 70m-long trains are expected to have stainless steel body shells and 270kW traction motors.
The 25kV/50Hz units have the capacity to carry 741 passengers with on board facilities including passenger information systems, video entertainment and CCTV.
The units were ordered in 2008 by Izban, a joint venture between the Turkish State Railway and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
