Rail Companies Boost Services as Volcanic Ash Affects Flights

17 May 2010

Train operators have put on extra services as volcanic ash from Iceland once again grounded flights across the UK.

International operator Eurostar and domestic providers Virgin Trains and Network Rail have pledged to do what they can to help stranded passengers.

Virgin Trains have provided an extra 7,000 seats, mainly on routes between London Euston, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Volcanic ash has grounded aircraft across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland until at least 1pm GMT.

On Sunday the UK's busiest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, were included in the flight ban.
