GCC Plans Regional Rail Network

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is planning to connect its member countries by railway.

Kuwait City in Kuwait will be linked to Al-Dammam in Saudi Arabia, Manama in Bahrain, Doha in Qatar, Abu Dhabi in the UAE and Muscat in Oman via the network, according to Kuwait's head of municipality department of structural planning, Saad Al-Muhailbi.

Kuwait's contribution to the $11bn GCC network venture is expected to be $880m, according to kuwaittimes.net.

The railway network will have highly equipped trains for the transportation of passengers and cargo, Al-Muhailbi said.
