Oman Seeks Tenders for Rail Projects

21 April 2010

Oman has invited two separate tenders from international companies for managing and designing its 500km-long railway project.

The national railway project, which is part of GCC's $20bn 1,900km-long network, is expected to link ports, airports and free zones in the country.

The project is estimated to produce $250m in revenue in its first year of operation, according to arabianbusiness.com.

Oman is intending to award the construction of the projects in three phases in 2012.

The three phases are scheduled for completion by 2017.

The project involves the construction of slow passenger and freight services, and express passenger railway lines.
