Harsco Gets Tamper Order for Brazil Rail

08 April 2010

The Brazilian railway market has chosen Harsco Corporation for its new railway ballast tamper order.

Brazilian contractor EGESA Engenharia SA will use the tamper in track construction throughout Brazil.

The contractor will be working on behalf of VALEC, Brazil's federal railway construction agency.

US-based Harsco said the laser-guided tamper can align and stabilise railway tracks by raising the rail to the desired height and packing the supporting ballast foundation.

The Brazilian unit will also use Harsco's Tie Sensor technology, which can enhance productivity by programming the frequency and placement of the unit's tamping tools.

The new tamper, expected to be delivered later this year, will be constructed at Harsco Rail's US production facilities.
