Feasibility studies for a new railway – linking Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia – will start next month, according to East African Community officials, reports the sudantribune.com.
The $900bn project will see 15 new railway lines built to connect at least seven countries.
Two lines will connect Ethiopia and Kenya with Sudan with one travelling from Addis Ababa through the Kenyan boarder town of Garissa, while the second will connect the costal town of Lamu with Juba in Sudan.
It is hoped that construction of the project will begin in May.
