A newly developed ultra-high frequency radio frequency identification (UHF RDID) system has been delivered by Swedish firm TagMaster to Banverket, the Swedish rail administration.
The system will be studied by Banverket as part of its ongoing evaluation of several RFID systems for use on the country's rail network.
Initially the study will check the use of the UHF ISO 18000-6 type C standard, also called EPC Gen 2, to identify goods wagons in Sweden.
Along with several other interested parties, Banverket is encouraging the European Rail Agency to adopt this ISO standard.
A Europe-wide wagon tracking system may be introduced where interoperability is a primary requirement.
TagMaster's UHF RFID reader is based on its existing fourth-generation reader technology and features the Linux operating platform, an adaptable web interface and connectivity options.
