Mumbai Metro to Receive Chinese Trains

24 March 2010

China is preparing to deliver a fleet of 18 trains for the Indian city of Mumbai's metro rail project, scheduled to open later this year.

Supplied under a $100m deal, signed in May 2008 by CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock, the trains will be the first domestically produced Chinese trains delivered to India.

The deal is the biggest ever for underground trains signed by a Chinese firm.

The trains are designed to suit the city's humid weather, as well as possible over-crowding, and are waterproof, shock-resistant and insulate noise.

The trains have recently been tested by Mumbai's metro rail project officials, according to hindu.com.
