Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in the US is preparing to buy locomotives for its commuter rail system.
The long-delayed purchase is expected to serve around 70,000 commuters every day who have been hampered by delays caused by engine failure.
MBTA is planning to purchase 20 trains to replace its existing locomotives, some of which were made in the 1970s, according to boston.com.
The cost of purchase is estimated to be more than $100m, with the federal government expected to pick up 80% of the tab.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the bids were due in February and the first of the new locomotives is expected to be rolled out in two to three years.
