Jerusalem will test run 46 new light rail vehicles (LRVs) over the next three months on the completed section of the Red Line.
System tests will be conducted on the vehicles by Alstom and CityPass during these months, followed by verification of the line.
The test operations will be extended across the remainder of the 13.8km Red Line once the electrification is complete. Track laying on the line is now complete.
A formal opening is expected in April 2011, after a 45-day period of full operation without passengers.
Test operations of the city's new light rail network began when a Citadis light rail vehicle made the first test run on 24 February, according to www.railwaygazette.com.
Disputes over access permits for construction sites have delayed construction and the Israeli Government was forced to compensate CityPass for lost revenues.
