Bombardier to Equip Spanish Rail Line

05 March 2010

A new signalling system on Spain's Alicante line (Madrid to Valencia) will be provided by Bombardier to cover a 90km stretch between Albacete and La Encina.

The €39m ($53m) contract for the Interflo 200 mainline signalling solution has been awarded by Spanish rail infrastructure administrator ADIF.

The contract, the highest ever by ADIF, includes Bombardier EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking, EBI Screen local control centre and EBI track train detection systems, as well as modification of existing systems, equipment and structures.

Work will be carried out in five phases over the next 12 months.

Interflo 200 can be complemented with a national Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system and can be upgraded to a European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

Bombardier Transportation Rail Control Solutions president Anders Lindberg said this system was already proven in Spain and this latest order was a testament to customers' confidence in the company's product.

The Interflo 200 system is in operation in countries across the world including Brazil, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Thailand.
