Dubai Approves $1.4bn for Rail Sector in 2010

25 January 2010

The UAE city of Dubai's Rail Agency will receive nearly AED4.9bn ($1.35bn) for rail transportation projects in 2010, the Roads & Transport Authority has announced.

This is 46% of the AED10.741bn ($2.92bn) approved for the city's transportation sector this year, including an operational budget of AED2.835bn ($748.8m) and capital and project budget of AED7.906bn ($2.15bn).

A major part of the funds will be used to finish the 75km Dubai Metro project, the first stage of which opened in September 2009.

The under-construction Green Line is scheduled to open in June this year.
