Pennsylvania Bids for $2.3bn Stimulus Grant for Maglev

29 July 2009

The US state of Pennsylvania has submitted a preliminary application for $2.3bn of stimulus money for its proposed $5.25bn high-speed maglev project.

The application covers the project's first 19-mile segment of track, three stations and train equipment.

The maglev will connect Pittsburgh International Airport to Downtown, Monroeville and Greensburg.

The maglev technology, which uses magnetic power to make trains float a few centimetres above a high-powered magnetic guideway, can help trains reach speeds of over 250mph.
