Texas Rail Relocation and Improvement Project Receives Local Support

24 April 2009

Texas is one step closer to a major rail relocation and improvement project after receiving support from the Texas House for its Rail Relocation and Improvement Fund, worth $91m a year.

The allotted fund will be used to improve safety and freight-rail capacity, reduce congestion at rail crossings and open up existing freight lines for passenger rails.

Funds will come through existing transport-related fees.

The bill is now sent for Senate’s approval.
