German Rail Strikes Called Off

10 March 2008

German train drivers' union GDL has called off today’s planned rail strike after agreeing a wage contract yesterday with state-owned rail company Deutsche Bahn.

GDL had called strikes from midnight, in response to a long-running wage dispute with the rail company.

Deutshce Bahn says the deal ensures a "good ending" for both sides involved in the dispute, averting any possible threat of strikes across Germany.
