A South African-led consortium is to invest US$130m in upgrading the Kenya-Uganda Railway over the next five years, according to news agency AFP.
The Rift Valley Railways Consortium is led by South African rail company Sheltam Rail Corporation, currently under a 25-year deal.
The line, owned by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania runs 900km from Kenya's Indian Ocean port of Mombasa, through Nairobi and onto Lake Victoria, with a separate branch serving Uganda.
