Nigeria Commences Rail Project

14 February 2011

China Civil and Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has commenced the Abuja to Kaduna rail modernisation project in Nigeria.

The $874.3m project involves rebuilding a section of railway between Nigeria's capital Abuja and the northern city of Kaduna, which are nearly 200km apart to a single track standard gauge line.

The section forms the first phase of the Nigerian railway modernisation project.

In December last year, the Nigerian Government secured a concessionary loan of $500m from the Chinese Government for the execution of the project.

The project is expected to be complete in three years, according to independentngonline.com.
