Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is finalising the alignment of the 104km third phase of the Delhi Metro, covering several more residential, business and academic centres than originally planned.
The alignment of phase three will involve an extension of over 34km, covering Jamia Milia Islamia University, which will extend from Nehru Place and will cover the busy outer ring road in the capital.
The DMRC has incorporated major changes for the alignment of phase three, which will be worth INR275bn ($6bn).
The network is likely to be extended to the neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, and includes a new corridor between Rajouri Garden and Dhaula Kuan.
The changes were made because the government asked the DMRC to cover more areas in the detailed project report and to include the outer and inner ring roads.
The final report of phase three has yet to be finalised and will be submitted for the Planning Commission's and federal government's approval.
Phase three is expected to be complete by March 2016, according to the Economic Times.
