MFL Maschinenfabrik Liezen

MFL Maschinenfabrik Liezen - Rail Milling Machines, Rail Sawing and Drilling Equipment, Rail Production Lines

Maschinenfabrik Liezen und Gießerei (MFL), Austria is a world-leading supplier of stationary and mobile rail milling and rail processing machines. MFL also delivers complete rail production lines as general contractor. MFL is engaged with rail processing technologies for more than ten years and offers a wide range of experience and know-how. Continuous development and advancement guarantee our customers machines that are always on the latest state of the art.

Rail milling machines

MFL's rail milling machines are an effective and efficient servicing method. The machines are able to operate on all kinds of track including main line and metro systems. By an enormous material removal rate of up to 8mm, the milling process guarantees a perfect cross-profile after one pass only. This high productivity can be reached without production of sparks and dust and without leaving dirt. Milling technology does not only protect the environment, it also prevents pollution of the track bed. 99.9% of the produced chips are removed by a suction device and can be resold as high-grade steel scrap.

Due to the reduction of tool and auxiliary costs (purification of the track, tunnel, etc.) compared to grinding, the milling process contributes essentially to the economic success of an organisation.

Rail milling machine RFP 1 for main line tracks

The most powerful rail milling train, RFP 1, is the latest development of MFL. The impressive appearance and the enormous capacity for performance data speak for themselves. A total length of 66.5m, 3m width, 4.6m height, 300t total weight, a chip container with 30m³ and more than 1,000kW driving power can only be topped by the performance data. The RFP 1 is equipped with 4 MFL rail milling aggregates, each with a diameter of 1,400mm. Consequently a milling performance of 3mm at the driving surface and 6mm at the driving edge per milling aggregate is possible. If using two milling aggregates per side, the milling depth can be doubled.

The machine has been designed for 24h continuous operation in the punishing barrens of the Russian Federation.

Rail milling machine for metro systems

Due to the special operating and service conditions (fire danger, etc.) for maintaining rail track in metro systems, MFL has developed a rail milling machine that is especially designed for working in tunnels and metro systems.

Operation in metros makes great demands on a vehicle. Clearance profiles, low overall sizes and wheel set loads as well as special exhaust emission values have to be considered prior to engineering and production of the machine.

The milling process in metro systems offers enormous advantages compared to grinding. For milling no water is required. There is no dust, dirt and sparks and no fire danger.

Rail finishing system

A completely new development is MFL's rail finishing system. This system can be installed optionally and guarantees a maximum surface quality which is especially required for acoustic reasons (noise development).

Rail production machines

MFL's product range also includes machines for the production of rails and axles, such as:

  • Rail sawing machines
  • Rail sawing and drilling machines
  • Rail drilling and milling machines
  • Axle sawing machines

The MFL sawing machines are equipped with carbide-tipped saw blades that ensure high performance and a long service life with fewer associated costs. MFL also supplies complete rail production lines as a general contractor.
