Railroad Construction and Maintenance

Herzog is the one-call-does-it-all source for many transportation agencies, railroad companies, municipalities, and other rail operators. Our extensive staff of engineers and designers can efficiently guide any project from the conceptual phase to actual ground breaking. Herzog uses a highly-trained cadre of railroad and construction specialists, using the most innovative methods in the industry.

Specialty Railway Equipment

Herzog’s railroad services division has played an important role in Herzog’s growth since its inception in the early 1970s. As a leader in rail equipment, development, manufacturer – with a corporate-wide commitment to safety, innovation and efficiency – Herzog has invested heavily in the design, manufacture, and operation of specialized equipment for the rail industry. Through our railcar-leasing program, Herzog owns more than 3,000 rail cars. Turnkey services for operations, maintenance, safety, and training are available.

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. (HTSI), was formed in 1993 and is the largest private contractor operating and maintaining commuter rail service in North America. Our clients include: Trinity Railway Express – Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX; Capital Metro - Austin, TX; Altamont Commuter Express - Stockton, CA; Rail Runner Express - Albuquerque, NM; Coaster- Oceanside, CA; New Jersey Transit - Atlantic City, NJ; Port of LA Red Car Line- San Pedro, CA; VIA Transit – Victoria, BC; Piedmont Intercity Service – Raleigh, NC; as well as experience at South Florida Regional Transportation Authority and SCRRA Metrolink in Los Angeles, CA. .

All management and employees working on transit projects working on Class I and shortlines are certified e-rail safe. Herzog’s commuter rail operations, rolling stock maintenance, and trackwork inspection/maintenance to FRA standards, provides a unique experience enabling Herzog to apply these skills to any light rail project from design to a fully implemented project.

Herzog’s civil construction division is the root of our organization, where we began operations as a heavy/highway contractor. Shortly thereafter, Herzog broadened our available services to include landfill construction/operations on an international national scale. We continue to maintain a significant presence in both fields.
