Invensys Rail in A$1.1bn Upgrade to Malaysia's Key Rail Route

Invensys Rail has announced that it is set to play a key role in a major enhancement of Malaysia's rail network by delivering the new signalling system for the Seremban to Gemas route double-tracking project. This will be another application of the company's highly successful WESTRACE electronic interlockings and other advanced signalling and control technologies.
The route from Seremban to the junction with the main north-south railway and the East Coast Line at Gemas, is being comprehensively upgraded by IRCON, India. In the process, it will also be electrified for operation at speeds of up to 160km/hr. The project is jointly funded by the Indian and Malaysian governments.
Invensys Rail was selected by IRCON to supply the signalling solution for the project through an international competitive bidding process. Invensys Rail's industry leading reputation for delivering challenging projects on time and in close partnership with clients was a key success factor. Invensys Rail will install its high-performance signalling technology along the 100km route, including the signalling of five new stations plus one existing station. WESTRACE has already been thoroughly proven in the challenging conditions of the region.
The signalling contract, which is worth approximately AUS$44m, will also see a train control system installed to link with state-owned railway KTMB's existing train control centre at Kuala Lumpur Sentral. The overall project will be completed in 27 months but Invensys Rail will complete the first phase of the re-signalling in just TEN months.

Invensys Rail is part of global process automation and systems control provider Invensys. It has already undertaken a number of demanding projects in Malaysia, including installations at North Butterworth and the token block working project. Projects in progress include the Sentul-Batu Caves and Johor Bahru Sentral upgrades.
