Bio-Engineering Products from Maccaferri Help Prevent Erosion at Rockingham Motor Speedway

ENKAMAT USED TO LINE BALANCING LAGOONS IN OUTFIELD
Enkamat permanent erosion prevention matting supplied by Maccaferri, specialists in retaining structures, soil reinforcement and erosion protection, has been used to stabilise balancing lagoons surrounding Rockingham Motor Speedway. The UK's first 'Indy-style' oval motor racing circuit, Rockingham was completed last summer and played host to a round of the US-based Fedex CART 500 championship in October 2001.
Built on the site of a former iron ore facility that supplied the local steelworks in Corby which closed in the 1970s, extensive earthworks were essential to create the distinctive banking required for the 1.5 mile 'oval'.
To ensure adequate drainage of the circuit and infield, consulting engineers Pick Everard of Leicester included a series of balancing lagoons in the outfield area. Just over 10,000m² of Enkamat Type 7010/4 have been used to protect the spill bank and prevent soil erosion.
A three dimensional synthetic geomat, Enkamat is manufactured from thick polyamide filaments fused where they cross to form a dense matting. Supplied in rolls, it is available in a wide variety of specifications to suit specific applications. It is used for erosion control and soil stabilisation on a wide range of applications from riverbanks to waste management schemes.
