Our recent innovations include Steelgrid - high strength rock fall protection and slope reinforcement netting.

RETAINING STRUCTURES

We offer a range of modular retaining wall systems with a pedigree within the rail sector, including gabions and the engineered reinforced soil systems Terramesh® and Anchor Landmark segmental blockwork walls.

These systems are BBA Roads and Bridges Certified, offering reliable and robust retaining solutions.

Anchor Landmark offers the aesthetics of a masonry wall with the engineered strength of reinforced soil. The structural backfill to Landmark is reinforced using Colbond Enkagrid® PRO extruded polyester geogrids. Landmark features a unique positive mechanical connection between geogrid and block.

As with all our systems, it is cost effective and simple to construct, requiring no specialist labour. These retaining systems also require negligible maintenance.

EROSION PROTECTION

Maccaferri offers a wide range of solutions for erosion control needs. Our range includes:

• Reno mattresses filled with stones for heavy hydraulic flows
• Enkamat® and MacMat® R non-degradable high performance erosion control mats / Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRMs)
• Armater geosynthetic cellular containment system to hold a depth of topsoil onto slopes to establish vegetation
• Biomac® and Loopmat biodegradable erosion control blankets
• Maccaferri 'Burrogard' anti-burrowing netting to protect embankments from damage by burrowing animals

ROCKFALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS

Maccaferri's rockfall mitigation and protection systems reduce the danger of falling rocks, which may endanger lives and infrastructure.

Our new, patented Steelgrid rock fall protection mesh integrates high tensile steel cables with our regular mesh to offer biaxial or uni-axial high strength drapery systems.

Steelgrid can also be used for surface strengthening in conjunction with soil nails to stabilise slopes. It offers high strength at low strain and is ideal for slope reinforcement applications.

Our High Energy Absorption (HEA) rock fall barriers are certified for an energy absorption of up to 2,000kJ, providing a rock fall protection catch fence for most rock fall situations.

SLOPE REINFORCEMENT / SOIL REINFORCEMENT

To improve the properties of soil, geogrid reinforcement can be sandwiched between compacted soil layers enabling them to accommodate greater loads and steeper slopes. Our solutions also reduce 'land-take' and the costly import and export of materials, embracing sustainability.

Designers can select a geogrid from Maccaferri's wide range of soil reinforcement products to suit specific soil conditions, including:

• Terramesh – gabion faced soil reinforcement system using steel geogrids
• Green Terramesh – vegetating face slope reinforcement system using steel geogrids
• Paralink™ – heavy-duty sheathed geogrids with strengths of up to 1,250kN/m for basal reinforcement and piled embankments
• EnkaGrid and Paragrid™ – polymer geogrids for slope reinforcement, segmental retaining walls and blockwork walls

MacMat R permanent 3D erosion control matting, with an integral woven steel mesh for added strength, is often used on railway embankments providing surface erosion protection in conjunction with soil nailed slope reinforcement.

PRE-FILL AND LIFT GABIONS AND RENO MATTRESSES

Our gabions and mattresses can be pre-filled, transported to site and then lifted into the works to form retaining structures and erosion protection. The solution is therefore ideal for limited time working windows or 'track possessions'.
