New MD for Geotechnical Specialists, Maccaferri

Maccaferri, the geotechnical and civil engineering specialists has appointed Philip Staten as Managing Director of its UK operation. He takes up the position in January 2008 following the retirement of the previous incumbent, Graham Marshall.

The Company is part of the worldwide Maccaferri Industrial Group which has its headquarters in Bologna, Italy and manufacturing facilities in over 20 countries worldwide.

Philip Staten, first joined Maccaferri in 1996 as Technical Manager, where he led their design team, with overall responsibility for design issues throughout the UK and Ireland. He became a company director in 1998 and in 2001, took responsibility for the group's business operation in sub-equatorial Africa, based in Durban. During his seven year tenure as MD for Maccaferri SA, he oversaw the company's global mission for diversification in the region.

Philip is a professionally qualified Civil Engineer and Geotechnical specialist with over 26 year's practical experience in the industry. Prior to joining Maccaferri, he spent six years with leading consulting engineers Scott Wilson, where he made a substantial contribution to the design and construction of the A50 Derby Southern Bypass, one of the major UK Highways projects of the early 90's.

During the early stages of his career he spent five years working in site investigation, with responsibility for both ground investigation and laboratory testing. This was followed by two years with a US-based consultant, where he gained valuable experience of the application of Geotechnics in arid and offshore conditions.

Philip has also worked as a consultant specialising in Geotechnical database software, completing assignments in India and Hong Kong.
