Stevo Electric is a company specialised in the delivery and support of test equipment used in HV networks for the Benelux market. Since 2003 we have also been active in the development of test and control equipment for high-speed DC breakers.

AC vacuum circuit breaker test equipment

Stevo Electric's primary core business is supplying test equipment for 50Hz AC vacuum circuit breakers used in traction vehicles.

High-speed DC circuit breakers test equipment

The company's second core business is the development, production and commercialization of equipment to carry out tests and controls of high-speed DC circuit breakers.

High-current 6,000A DC generator

The BALTO 6,000A DC high-current generator's development is mainly based on the functional specifications of different railway companies.

The BALTO 6,000A system has been designed to generate very high test currents for operational testing of high-speed DC circuit breakers. These high test currents are injected on the main circuit of the high-speed DC circuit breakers. With these tests complete circuits of current transducers, current conducting parts, connecting parts and protection relays can be checked.

For the construction and assembling of the BALTO system special care has been taken for transportation between different traction substations and switching panels. This mobility is a major practical advantage, as it allows users to carry out tests on high-speed DC circuit breakers installed on rolling stock.

The BALTO system comprises the following components:

• Control unit – operator terminal
• Three current units
• Three-phase rectifier
• Transport carriage
• Connecting cables

The BALTO system can be rapidly installed, assembled and connected, and is auto-didactic. All components are portable, meaning transportation is easy.

Accessories include BALTO Win (a communication program for the XV400operator terminal); remote operation and test reporting; a simulation terminal; and external current measurement.

Twin high-current DC generators for 13,000A injection currents

For injection currents up to 13,000A DC two BALTO 6.000A systems are connected in parallel, in a master-slave configuration.

Applications for high-current DC generators

The BALTO system can be used for numerous DC applications where use of high currents is required. These include:

• Initial testing of protection systems
• Testing high-speed DC circuit breakers for traction substations
• Testing high-speed DC circuit breakers, for locomotives, electric multiple-units (EMU), metro coaches and tramways
• Testing of main switching equipment for tramways and trolleybuses
