Smith Systems sensors and cable assemblies are commonly used in railway applications to provide:
Railway speed sensorsIn addition to the various applications in braking controls and motive power controls, Smith Systems offers speed sensor configurations that survive the harsh environment around crank shafts and turbochargers on diesel engines. Reliable performance in harsh environment applications is a trademark of all our products. Speed sensors can be conventional variable reluctance (VR) designs, such as magnetic pick-ups, with a variety of pole piece options depending on the necessary target. We offer magnetic pick-ups with digital signal conversion built in, hall-effect devices provided in single and multiple channel options, replacement parts for magneto resistor (MR) probes, two-wire hall-effect sensors for digital output and other options. We will design and manufacture custom sensors, and associated cable and hardware requirements for your application, combining proven solutions to answer your needs. Bearing-temperature surveillance sensorsSmith Systems' patented bearing-temperature surveillance sensors are unmatched in the market. These parts, like all our products, are durably constructed to survive extreme vibration and other harsh under-car environmental conditions. They also offer ease of installation and, when combined with the interconnect EZ-Change™ cable system, modular design for enhanced maintainability. Multiple options in sensor and cable configurationWhether you are involved with vehicle control or engine management, all the inputs need to be high reliability components in order for the higher level system to meet its performance expectations. Our products are designed to meet international standards for bogie-mounted and axle level applications. Our operators are solder-trained to exacting NASA standards. We 100% test every product that we manufacture. We offer an extended list of options in sensor and cable configuration – integral connectors (straight out or angled), armored cable, cable in flexible conduit, overmolded transitions of both sensor and connector, and IP67 or 68 flexible conduit and connection fittings, all to customer specifications. Speed sensors for various rail applicationsFor unparalleled reliability you can depend on, specify Smith Systems' railway speed sensors for applications such as:
