Ingeteam Traction designs and supplies complete traction, control and auxiliary systems for trams, EMUs, locomotives and high-speed trains, based on in-house technological developments in the field of control and power electronics, with the goal of maximising the availability and performance of trains, as well as offering comfort and safety.

Rolling stock definition, design and engineering

Cooperation with our clients stretches from the vehicle definition, design and engineering, up to the turnkey supply of on-board electrical solutions, for both new rolling stock projects and fleet modernisation.

Our capabilities and experience in the railway sector allow us to offer advanced solutions that contribute towards significant improvements to railway operation, focusing especially on operating costs, reliability, availability, maintenance and energy consumption.

Train traction systems, traction converters and auxiliary power supply

Our traction systems, including traction converters, electrical machines and auxiliary elements, cover the entire range of catenary voltages (750VDC, 1,500VDC, 3,000VDC, 15kVAC and 25kVAC) for light tramcars, metros, EMUs, rail tractor units and high-speed locomotives.

In the development and manufacture of our traction converters, we apply the latest technology in the field of power semiconductors, and we pay special attention to modularity along with a high degree of standardisation; these are the key aspects that allow us to offer high rates of reliability and reduced maintenance costs.

We design and manufacture auxiliary power supply systems for rolling stock that are light and compact for the entire range of catenary voltages, with the possibility of being integrated into the traction converter.

Our offer includes battery chargers based on resonant or high-frequency circuits to minimise the space required and the weight, and that can be integrated with the auxiliary converter itself.

Ingeteam Traction's industrial activity also includes design and manufacture of electric generators for diesel-electric solutions and traction motors adapted to the individual requirements of each project.

Train on-board electrical system engineering for new rolling stock and modernisations

From the initial phase of a project we contribute our experience in analysis of a system's performance. Starting (in the case of a modernisation project) with the original system, right up to the final phase of installing the new system, we offer optimal solutions in terms of both performance and cost.

We execute the specifications for all on-board electrical components, traction systems, control systems, auxiliary power supplies, communication systems, signalling systems, and security and comfort systems, integrating said systems into the engineering of the train.

Our engineers proceed to programme the vehicle's various control systems, and support them through their commissioning and subsequent approval, thus providing a turnkey service for our customers. Finally, we specify and integrate auxiliary elements for the traction system, like pantographs or transformers.

Rail kinematic-energy recovery system with feedback to the grid

Today there is an ever-increasing need to improve the energy efficiency of rail systems, to ensure greater sustainability. Rail transportation systems have improved the efficiency of their systems by applying regenerative braking to their electric traction rail vehicles.

Ingeteam Traction has developed a system to recover kinematic energy in railway systems, which solves existing energy braking recovery limitations, feeding back to the electricity grid the energy that would be burnt on the train's resistance. It can be integrated into current substations without the need to modify the existing system.

We offer operators an analysis of their system's energy output balance, as a previous step to the economical analysis and the technical specification and dimensioning of the system.
