Complete rail battery systems

Our rail batteries are ideal for use in all rail applications. Our battery systems guarantee reliability for the following applications:

• City traffic - suburban railway and underground trains, as lighting and emergency current supply and auxiliary batteries
• Regional traffic: railway passenger carriages, as lighting and emergency current supply
• Long-distance traffic - railcars with internal combustion engines as a diesel starter battery, electric railcars as auxiliary battery and modern long-distance trains as an emergency power supply or for diesel starting

Hawker evo rail batteries

Hawker evo rail vehicle batteries - in accordance with the DIN standard - are fitted with maintenance-free, gel tubular-plate cells approved for application in railway vehicles. The battery trays are of polypropylene, polyethylene or plastic-coated steel and they are resistant to high mechanical stresses at different ambient temperatures.

Because of their design the battery trays are particularly low maintenance and easy to handle and clean.

Problem-free, cost-conscious cell replacement

Hawker's evo rail battery does not require any water filling throughout its whole operational life. These batteries also eliminate the possibility of environmentally-damaging electrolyte leakage as the electrolyte is fixed in the gel. As a result, the batteries do not experience any faults.

Evo rail batteries experience very little self-discharge. Suitable for medium, partly cyclical loads, the evo rail batteries have robust cell construction in a tubular-plate design. They are also compatible as spare batteries for train lighting and diesel start.

The fully-insulated maintenance-free fastening technology used in the evo rail batteries ensures problem-free, cost-conscious cell replacement.

Hawker perfect rail batteries

Hawker perfect rail vehicle batteries in crate design – in accordance with the DIN standard – are fitted with low-maintenance, low-antimony tubular-plate cells approved for application in railway vehicles. The battery connections ensure problem-free and easy battery replacement.

Hawker's automatic water refill system ensures that the batteries are low-maintenance, while the flexible connectors with adapted cross section allow the batteries to carry high currents. The cells and batteries have been homologated by many of the European rail organisations.

NI-CD rail batteries

Hawker Ni-Cd rail batteries, with pocket plate electrodes in steel or plastic cases, have a proven design and reliability that guarantee maximum service life. Ni-Cd rail batteries are used all over the world, especially in regions where extreme environmental conditions can be found.

Unique features of Hawker's Ni-Cd batteries include:

• Excellent resistance against electrical and mechanical stress
• No risk of terminal decompose or sudden death due to plate construction
• Operational temperature range between -40°C and +50°C
• Robust construction – hard-wearing and insensitive to faults in maintenance

Battery chargers

Hawker also supplies battery chargers for rail batteries. Battery charging profiles, adapted to the benchmark battery values set by Hawker, must be provided for maintenance-free evo rail batteries to obtain an optimum operational life. Hawker recommends a temperature-controlled charging characteristic for all battery systems.
