Battery Energy Power Solutions

Battery Energy Power Solutions - Rail Gel Batteries

Battery Energy is Australia's leading gel battery manufacturer with a fully integrated gel battery manufacturing facility in Sydney. Battery Energy manufactures a complete range of gel batteries using its proprietary SuperGel long-life plate technology, developed in collaboration with Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (the CSIRO).

We are proud to be the only Australian-owned battery manufacturer and a leading supplier of rail power in the Oceania region. Battery Energy is large enough to meet our customer's needs, but flexible enough to design or adjust existing products to customer specific requirements.

Battery Energy designs and maintains products to meet the expanding requirements of supplying power for railway, solar, UPS, communications, switching, emergency power and many other applications, consequently giving the reliability and safety that is needed to give safe operation over operation of ten to 20 years of design life.

Plate technology RailGEL batteries

RailGEL batteries from Battery Energy use revolutionary long-life plate technology which has been designed specifically for critical rail applications.

When the CSIRO and Battery Energy developed GEL technology, they focused on developing a product with superior life characteristics. Although the RailGEL battery technology is based on previous gel technology, it uses unique chemical and molecular characteristics and differentiated production techniques from regular gel batteries.

The superior characteristics of RailGEL batteries have been tested by the CSIRO in a number of independent tests. The results of these tests prove the superiority of Battery Energy batteries under the most extreme test conditions; they typically outperform other gel batteries by a factor of between two and three, subject to application.

Long-life RailGEL batteries

The applications are often remotely located and installed in the most extreme environmental conditions. To deliver a reliable service with a long operating life requires a unique blend of physical, structural and chemical characteristics.

The superior life characteristics apply both to the performance of the battery under varying extreme climatic conditions and the robust construction that allows it to withstand electrical and physical abuse and vibration during transport, installation and operation. For this reason the RailGEL is possibly the worlds best gel battery.

RailGEL battery advantages

Battery Energy's range of railway gel batteries has significant advantages over competitive products. Features of RailGEL batteries include:

  • Designed in conjunction with the CSIRO
  • Longer life, as proved by independent tests
  • Built in Australia for Australian conditions
  • The RailGEL thick plate (5.4mm positive plate thickness) gelled electrolyte technology product will operate more efficiently in a less-than-ideal environment than a comparable AGM product; the thicker the positive plate, the longer the service life
  • Lower SG of 1,260 compared with most AGM products at SG 1,300-1,310 equals lower-strength acid and slower corrosion
  • Designed to elevate problems of acid stratification
  • Much more electrolyte per Ah (60%-70%)
  • Less prone to dry out, thermal runaway, and negative busbar corrosion
  • Recovers well from deep discharge
  • Double O-ring post sealing method: good sealing methods avoid acid leaks
