Voith Turbo Lokomotivtechnik in Kiel

On 30 May 2006, Peter Edelmann, Board Member of Voith AG, and Hinrich Krey, Executive Vice President of Voith Turbo Lokomotivtechnik, opened the new building of Voith Turbo Lokomotivtechnik in Kiel. The ceremony took place in the presence of numerous representatives from politics, business and industry who give this project their full backing.
The new building is owned by Kieler Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Strukturentwick-lungs (Kiel Business and Structural Development). The lease contract runs initially for 12 years, with an option for renewal. The investment for the building amounts to € 7 million.
At its site in Kiel, Voith Turbo Lokomotivtechnik, a subsidiary of Voith Turbo, Heidenheim, develops and produces a new diesel-hydraulic, six-axle locomotives for heavy mainline cargo traffic.
An engine output of 3600kW will allow maximum speeds of 120km/h to 160km/h. Power is transmitted through reliable Voith components. The first Voith locomotive, the Maxima® 40CC, will therefore be the most powerful diesel-hydraulic locomotive in Europe. It will be presented to the public at this year's Innotrans in Berlin from 19 - 22 September 2006.
