Webro cable and connectors is pleased to announce that it is able to supply fibre optic cables, which meet the high performance and test criteria of section 12 London Underground specifications, requiring advanced low smoke zero halogen outer sheaths.
These cables were independently tested at a London Underground-approved testing facility and complete compliance certification was achieved for the following fibre cables:
Both cable designs allow for easy connectorisation into electronic equipment and for direct termination into equipment cabinets where necessary.
Having achieved the extremely high London Underground section 12 performance standard, Webro approached fibre cable installers working within this demanding environment and won two contracts during 2008 encompassing all stations across the London Underground network.
One of these is providing both tight buffered and breakout fibre cables to WS Atkins on behalf of the massive Metronet station upgrade and refurbishment programme. Along with the fibre cables Webro is also supplying copper coaxial 75Ω and 50Ω cables, telephone cables to G7623, Cat 5e data cables and fire alarm cables, all tested and approved to section 12 approval.
The second contract is supplying fibre cables for London Underground's new generation of interactive advertising and multimedia platform announcements replacing the outdated fixed advertising boards. This allows up to the minute changes to be made when needed and will also provide high profile product and service advertising leading to the 2012 Olympic Games, which will be held in London.
Installation contractors also have comfort in the fact that Webro keep a buffer stock of the approved fibre cables and are able to supply on a next-day basis, which is a vital necessity when complying with London Underground restricted access windows.
Mr Roger Webster, managing director, said, “It was priority for Webro to obtain London Underground section 12 fibre cables approval, having already achieved section 12 approval for our vast range of coaxial 75Ω and 50Ω, triaxial, data, telecom and fire alarm communication cables used within London Underground. It has allowed us to provide a total cable solution and thus become a valuable supplier to London Underground installers. It also gives us more routes to market when important cable accreditations like these are obtained.”
