In order to perform maintenance that ensures the safety of train traffic during passage through the warranty area, it is necessary to improve the theoretical training of car inspectors. On the Sverdlovsk Road, at the Voynovka operational carriage depot, a program has been used for several years to test the knowledge of inspectors during a road competition of professional skills.

The management of the carriage service decided to use the same program to conduct pre-shift testing. At the moment, there is a proposal to further extend it to the entire Russian Railways road network.

To test the car inspectors, a database of 10 questions was created on the knowledge of the instructions of the car inspector, the technological process, the safety of the car fleet, labor protection and alarm instructions. The program allows you to create a database of questions for any other category of employees (operators, foremen, etc.).


The program's interface is accessible and easy to use. At the same time, it is possible to configure various parameters during the test, including setting a time limit for the answer, the number of questions, filling in the database of questions and answers, and saving the database of employees with the latest results. When passing the test, the program randomly selects from the database of questions the number that was determined for testing.

Through the settings, you can adjust the number of questions from each topic available in the database, or use only one topic with a set number of questions.

Each question has four answers, of which one is correct and three are obviously incorrect. The overall score is derived from the percentage of points scored to the total number of questions.

The protocol must be printed or saved as a photo after testing. Based on the test results, the training engineer and the instructor decide whether to include additional questions in the technical study program for the next month on those topics that caused difficulties during testing.


To avoid a formal approach to testing in each depot, it is necessary to change the test questions (wording, order of questions and answers) every two months. The advantage of this tester over other programs is that the database of questions and its changeability can be checked at any time. Therefore, strict control has been established on the Sverdlovsk Road by the carriage service for the timely replacement of tester questions.

Later, when the system is connected to a local network, depot managers and service specialists will be able to monitor the database of questions without printing it, as well as view the list of employees who were tested at the time of the request.
But, unfortunately, there are some disadvantages of the program. This is, for example, saving only the latest test results. However, it is planned to overcome all of them in the future.
