Philippines Opens New Station of Light Rail Transit Line

27 October 2010

The Philippine Light Rail Transit Authority has opened a new station in Roosevelt, Quezon City.

The station is the second part of the PHP9bn ($209m) Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 North Extension project to be executed in three phases.

The extension project involves construction of a 5.7km elevated line connecting the train system to the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3), which runs along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA).

The authorities said the addition of the station brought the project closer to completion, and all that is left to complete is a common station from LRT Line 1 to MRT-3, which will be finished next year.

The new station with two additional trains will accommodate 3,000 passengers, while travel time from Baclaran to Roosevelt will be less than an hour.

The project is expected to be complete by the last quarter of 2011, according to bworldonline.com.
