San Francisco Unveils First Upgraded MUNI Vehicle

21 October 2010

The San Francisco Municipal Railway in the US state of California has unveiled the first upgraded Muni light rail vehicle (LRV).

The $56m project was awarded by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to AnsaldoBreda to upgrade the agency's fleet of 143 LRVs, of which $9m comes from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.

The agency plans to rehabilitate all of the Muni's LRVs to their original operating specifications in order to enhance their service reliability.

Of the 151 light-rail vehicles, AnsaldoBreda will repair 143 over the next six years, while the remainder will be upgraded under a different programme, according to articles.sfgate.com.
