Deutsche Bahn (DB) has completey safety tests in the Channel Tunnel, paving the way for a high-speed train link between Germany and London.
Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel said DB successfully ran fire-evacuation tests using its Inter City Express (ICE) 3 train with around 300 passengers on board.
The tests were carried out to demonstrate DB can operate safely in the tunnel, even in an emergency, according to Reuters.
DB is considering a route that will begin at Frankfurt, Germany, with stops at Cologne, Brussels and Rotterdam, which is expected to cut the travel time to London by 3h 55min.
DB requires approval from the Channel Tunnel Intergovernmental Commission before beginning full services by the end of 2013.
Only Eurostar runs the passenger train services through the Channel Tunnel.
