Costain Wins London Tunnel Contract

20 October 2010

UK-based engineering and construction company Costain has been awarded a ВЈ200m ($317.8m) contract from National Grid for its 33km-long London cable replacement tunnel.

The contract includes building a high-voltage electricity cable tunnel between Hackney and Willesden, and Kensal Green and Wimbledon.

The network will replace London's ageing electricity cable network and will meet the increasing demand for supplying power to Crossrail through the network, according to thisislondon.co.uk.

Works will start later this year, with the tunneling expected to complete by end of 2014 and all associated works completed by November 2018.

The contract forms part of National Grid's investment plans in London to ensure a continued safe and reliable electricity transmission network.
