Work has begun on the construction of a new station at Cardinia road in Melbourne, Australia, which is part of a A$220m (US$215m) package for new stations in the region.
The Department of Transport, Metro Trains and construction company John Holland will initially carry out earthworks and piling for foundations next to the rail line.
The new station, located between Officer and Pakenham stations on the Pakenham line, will feature a new park and ride facility with 450 car parking spaces and a pedestrian underpass for access between the northern and southern sides of the rail line.
The station will open to the public in late 2011, and new stations are also being built at Williams Landing, Caroline Springs and Lynbrook.
