BART Awards Contract for US Airport Connector Project

08 October 2010

The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) board in the US has awarded a design, build, operate and maintenance contract for the proposed Oakland airport connector to a joint venture of Flatiron and Parsons.

The consortium will also include Doppelmayr Cable Car as technology supplier and US-based construction firm Turner Construction as a major subcontractor.

The $361m automated people mover project will provide a 3.2 mile connection between BART's Coliseum station and Oakland Airport, transporting air travellers in about 8min.

The Flatiron/Parsons joint venture will design and construct the fixed, elevated guideway and Austria-based Doppelmayr will supply the automated people mover (APM) technology.

The project will begin by late 2010, with service anticipated in three-and-a-half years.
